5 Ways You Can Protect Your Ends

The ends of your hair are vulnerable to all kinds of damage and irritation. Friction, fairy knots, breakage, split ends, etc. will plague your hair until the end of time. For these reasons, it’s so important to protect your ends to the best of your ability! Your ends deserve a lil extra attention to ensure they’re retaining adequate hydration and continuing growth to their healthiest extent! Thankfully, we have some tips to make sure your ends are staying soft and an untangled mess.

1) Don’t be handsy with the oil!

Yes, oil seals in moisture! Unfortunately, many of us feel entitled to use too much oil. Too much oil prevents moisture from penetrating the shaft, thus your ends get dryer. Dry ends are a result of dehydration, aka not enough H2O. It’s important to use water prior to the application of oil. The amount of water applied should outweigh the amount of oil you use so be careful! To smooth the cuticle, rub your hands in a prayer-like motion to ensure the ends are being properly attended to. Lightweight oils such as the Strands of Faith Stimulating Sealing Oil and the Uniqurl Aloe and Almond Aloe Sealing Hair Oil are guaranteed to make a difference!

2) Silk and Satin are the ultimate protectors

Silk and satin materials should be used as aids to your hair care. They’re the ultimate protection to ensure your hair stays softer! Moisture won’t be stripped from your strands, so your strands will be softer and less likely to tangle from dryness. Satin and silk pillowcases, scrunchies, scarves, bonnets, durags, etc. will protect your hair from frizz and dehydration. It’s important to incorporate protection into your hair care! Without satin or silk material, all the products and time spent on your hair would be wasted!

3) Detangle gently

It’s very easy to get frustrated at all the knots that seem to pop out of nowhere! Detangling is always a slow process that requires patience and diligence. It’s recommended to use tools such as the CulrMix Flex Brush and KAZMALEJE Kurls Detangler Paddle Comb to reduce knots in the kindest form. Always start from the ends and work your way up. The ends are more than likely the source of all your tangles so starting from the lowest point diminishes their presence as you work your way up.

If you decide to utilize your fingers for natural detangling, be careful of fairy knots They’re more likely to form with finger detangling, they’re also harder to get rid of without trimming!

4) The ends need some extra lovin’

The ends of the hair need some extra attention! Don’t be afraid to add some more water and product to ensure the hair to adequately hydrated. Again, moderation is key. The CurlMix Fine Mister Spray Bottle will enable the perfect amount of water without being overbearing!

5) It’s time to TRIM.

For too long most of us go on without the desire for trimming. I mean what’s really the harm if your hair is still growing and you’re retaining length? Unfortunately, this belief is harming your hair’s health! As the hair grows, split ends continue up the hair shaft. Essentially, your hair is breaking off even with the newest growth. Although your hair is growing, the ends are sabotaging new growth! If your ends are trimmed, it’s easier to detangle and retain moisture. Split ends disrupt the cuticle’s texture so, moisture doesn’t retain as easily. To save time and tangled messes in the future, go ahead and get your hair trimmed! Save your ends and keep them healthy by letting them go every few weeks!
